The fall brings cooler temperatures, changing leaves, and of course the start of school. For teachers that is a little less true as most of us have been back to school for weeks doing the million and one things needed to start the year off right. We put a lot of time and effort into not only the big things but those that others might think are inconsequential. For instance, last year I created from the ground up my own flip book for parents listing all general information and expectations for the year. This small item is individually cut, sorted, and then sealed (this year by sewing the top). Such a simple thing but at least 5 hours of work. Could I do something easier? Create a document that I could simply print and staple right in the copy machine? Of course I could, but I want my parents to have this information in a way that will not only catch their attention but also be easy to use. So for now I will continue to put in the extra time for my students and their families.
